Outlaw Field, 2013, Idaho Botanical Garden
The guard station led to what was known as #2 yard. It is currently home to the Idaho Botanical Gardens, but it was once part of the Old Penitentiary. In Yard 2 there was a prison orchard, prison school, and a baseball field; now known as Outlaw Field where the Outlaws baseball club played other teams. The Outlaws had no restrictions on who could join, even convicted murders were allowed to play. The Outlaws were a formal team from the 1930s until 1973 and had a reputation as a difficult team to beat. Today, inmates at the Idaho State Correctional Facility still refer to themselves as the Outlaws when they gather for a casual game of baseball.
